MINNEAPOLIS – A New Brighton man is facing five felony charges for possessing child sexual abuse material, according to a complaint filed last week in Ramsey County District Court.

James Ricky Bruner, 36, is accused of having five sexual images of girls found by his probation officer, according to the complaint, signed by Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Special Agent Katie Booth and Assistant Ramsey County Attorney Steven Pfaffe.

Bruner was sentenced for similar charges in 2024 and is required to allow probation officers to search his electronic devices. Previous complaint here.

The probation officer, who is unnamed in the complaint, found 27 files that appeared to meet the definition of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), according to Booth.

Those images were sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which confirmed that the 21 images were from eight different series of known survivors of CSAM, according to Booth.

Prosecutors routinely only charge people for a fraction of the CSAM police allege defendants possessed.

Judge Victoria Bruner released Bruner on his own recognizance on Nov. 21 following his arrest the day prior.

His next court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.
