Misfits Media is an independent publication launched in October 2025 by Twin Cities-based journalist Mark Wasson. Mark has mainly focused on covering various court systems, including metro, rural and federal districts, during his career in journalism.
Misfits Media was launched to focus on reporting under-covered stories that bigger news outlets have either missed or decided not to report on. Specifically, Misfits Media will cover most sexual assault cases against children in the Hennepin and Ramsey County court systems and civil rights violations in the Twin Cities.
In addition, Misfits Media seeks to provide a narrative for Twin Cities issues outside of the neoliberal world view.
This media organization is fundamentally biased due to the nature of the truth and its interpretations of community morals and ethics. For example, it is a given at Misfits Media that providing civil rights, healthcare, housing, education and food are fundamental responsibilities a government owes to every human being it seeks to lead.
It is also a given at Misfits Media that the militarization of law enforcement and the various “wars” the government wages on its own people — like the drug war, the war against people in poverty and the war against immigrants — are antithetical to a functioning society based on empathy and democracy.
Mark is a member of several professional, political and social organizations like the Twin Cities DSA, About Face, the Red Loons and the Society of Professional Journalists.
